A JET2 passenger has spoken out after the airline’s staff allegedly refused to stop serving food and drink containing an ingredient she is deathly allergic to.

Chloe Fitzpatrick was flying from Manchester to Ibiza last month and duly informed staff of her airborne allergy to strawberries – an ingredient which could cause her to go into anaphylactic shock.

Despite being common procedure to ensure staff have time to dispose of any products containing the ingredient, Chloe claims that the cabin crew manager was immediately “unhappy” about doing so.

The 23-year-old alleges that the manager was instead concerned about the “loss of commission” from being unable to serve drinks like rose wine and pink gin.

She claims that the staff ignored her pleas after a “degrading” 45-minute deliberation, instead choosing to continue serving the products and making Chloe wear a face mask and sit near a filtered vent.

Chloe alleges that after initially being asked to leave the aircraft so that staff could discuss whether she was “suitable to fly”, she was seen by an “extremely patronising” medic.

The medic – who Chloe claims was not a doctor nor an allergy specialist – allegedly told her that she should undergo tests before every flight to check whether she even still had the allergy.

It was then that Chloe says she was let back on the flight with a promise that her allergy would be announced over the speaker system.

However, upon finding their seats and taking off, Chloe claims it was clear that they had not removed any products with strawberries in them.

Instead, the cabin crew were allegedly only serving them to people not “in close proximity” to Chloe.

This left the holiday-maker “petrified” as she says she was left “thousands of feet off the ground surrounded by products that could potentially kill [her]”.

Taking to social media last week, Chloe shared the full story of her heartbreaking experience.

She wrote: “I am still in utter shock and disbelief following my recent experience on a Jet2 flight on Friday 18 Aug 2023. I flew out to Ibiza on Flight LS1731 departing 16:05.

“As most of you know, I have a severe allergy. Prior to making a booking and then at the check-in desk I have always been told to notify the onboard crew when boarding the aircraft.

“When it was time to board the aircraft the check-in staff scanned our boarding passes and we were allowed to board the plane with special assistance.

“This was to allow time for the crew to remove any strawberry products from the inflight food service.

“As soon as the cabin crew manager was notified, she instantly seemed unhappy about removing the strawberry products.

“The list of strawberry products consisted of rose wine, pink gin, strawberry daiquiris, Fruit Pastilles and Haribo sweets.

“I believe, because this was a Friday night flight to Ibiza, she was concerned more about the potential loss of commission from not being able to sell the alcoholic products than my welfare.

“We were then asked to exit the aircraft whilst the manager and the pilot discussed whether I was suitable to fly. This was so degrading, embarrassing and discriminatory against me.

“I understand that they cannot guarantee a strawberry-free flight as they have no control over what passengers bring on board.

“But the airline does have a duty of care to minimise the risk by stopping serving the products they have onboard and to make an in-flight announcement to ensure passengers who may have brought these products on themselves are aware of my allergy.

“I know I take a risk flying and in fact even leaving the safety of my own home is an informed risk I take every single day in order to live as normal a life as possible.

“I always have my two EpiPens with me to keep myself as safe as possible and to use in case of an emergency.

“I usually feel confident flying as all airlines usually assist with minimising the risk. I am still struggling to believe that on this particular flight to Ibiza Jet2 refused to do this.

“Eventually, the crew agreed to let me fly and explained that this would be at my own risk.

“They would make an announcement about my strawberry allergy, sit me near a filtered vent and give me a mask to wear.

“The flight eventually took off and an announcement was made about my allergy.

“But then it became clear that they had not removed the strawberry products from the inflight service.

“They had decided to only not serve these products to people on the rows in close proximity to us, not the whole of the flight.

“As you can imagine I was petrified. I was thousands of feet off the ground surrounded by products that could potentially kill me.

A text allegedly from Jet2.

“This was also extremely distressing and heartbreaking for my sister too who was terrified that I could go into anaphylactic shock, rendering me unconscious and could potentially die in front of her.

“She felt absolutely helpless. In day-to-day life, I have the ability to physically remove myself from potential risk when strawberry products are in the vicinity.

“On an aircraft with recycled air, I cannot do this.

“The cabin crew did not make the conditions of the flight clear; had we known strawberry products were still going to be sold we would not have boarded the plane.

“The decision made by the crew put my life at risk.

“The decision to still serve those products was and remains dangerous, disgraceful, discriminatory and shows a lack of awareness with regards to life threatening allergies.

The post received over 900 likes, more than 800 shares and dozens of comments as many were left disgusted by Jet2’s alleged handling of the situation.

Maddie Knight wrote: “That’s so upsetting and dangerous. I hope you’re feeling okay now.

“The airline should consider themselves lucky that you didn’t have a serious reaction as it would have been 100% their fault.”

Kate Conboy said: “Utterly unforgivable treatment by a company who should know better.”

Sheila Elliot commented: “Glad you’re okay, Chloe. That’s so, so disgraceful.”

Breanna Alice added: “As if your life isn’t hard enough already as it is. What an absolute disgrace – I am so, so sorry that you and your family have had this awful experience.

Rachel Wilcock wrote: “So sorry that you had to experience this, Chloe. You would think after Natasha [Ednan-Laperouse] passed away on a flight, airlines would be doing all they can to do the right thing.

“Accepting that you can’t control what people bring onto a flight (a fear you live with every time you step out the door) the airline most certainly has a duty of care to keep you safe on that flight by controlling what they stock.

“The more I think about this, the more enraged I am. Sending you lots of love, sweetheart.”

Chloe Fitzpatrick.
Chloe claims she was instructed to wear a face mask and sit by a ventilated part of the plane. (C) Chloe Fitzpatrick/Facebook.

Writing in conclusion to her situation, Chloe revealed that Jet2 had further confirmed via text that they were unwilling to stop selling strawberry products onboard her return flight.

She went on to add that she no longer felt safe on a Jet2 airplane, leaving her and her sister to book a flight home through Ryanair instead – who she said she was “so grateful” to, for following guidelines.

She added: “As per industry guidelines Ryanair ceased the sale of their in-flight products containing strawberries and made two announcements outlining to other passengers the risk of opening any strawberry based products on board.

“I believe this is an embarrassing reflection on Jet2 as a company.

“My recent experience has made me feel extremely anxious about flying with other airlines in case this happens again. It has affected my confidence and I am really afraid of any future air travel.”

Natasha Ednan-Laperouse, 15, died in 2016 after suffering an anaphylactic shock to sesame seeds in a Pret a Manger baguette she had bought at Heathrow before catching a flight.

Her death led to the introduction of Natasha’s Law – put in place to protect people with food allergies who rely on the transparency of ingredients and food labelling for prepacked foods.

Jet2 has been approached for comment.

A FOOTIE fan snapped a photo of his chance meeting with Manchester United star Jadon Sancho, only to later notice a surprise cameo from a famous strongman in the background.

Kieran Wilson was travelling on a family holiday to New York from Manchester Airport when he spotted winger Sancho in the queue next to him.

Starstruck, the 19-year-old approached Sancho, 23, for a picture, which the England international gladly agreed to.

However, it was only after later viewing the snap that Kieran from Manchester, Lancashire, realised that the pair had been photobombed by none other than former World’s Strongest Man, Eddie Hall.

In the picture, Kieran is standing towards the front of the passport control queue alongside the former Borussia Dortmund forward.

Sancho, clad in a simple grey hoodie and a black cap, smiles with his arm around Kieran as fellow passengers glance at the duo.

However, in the background of the photo, the hulking figure of 35-year-old Hall can be seen, towering over his fellow passengers.

The six-time UK’s Strongest Man champion sports a mohawk and a black t-shirt that reads “Beast” as he wryly smiles at the camera, with both Kieran and Sancho seemingly blissfully unaware of his presence.

Kieran shared the photo with a Premier League player-dedicated social media account on Wednesday who duly shared it online.

The caption reads: “Jadon Sancho was on my flight to New York. I asked him for a photo in the passport control queue, it was only later I realised that Eddie Hall was photobombing us.”

The post has since received over 6,000 likes and dozens of comments by fans left stunned by Hall’s cameo appearance.

One user joked: “The two kings of the bench.”

Another said: “Crazy photo.”

A third commented: “Possibly the best submission yet.”

Another quipped: “Both love the bench.”

Speaking today Kieran said: “I had a friend who was in first class, I spoke to him during the flight and he said Jadon Sancho was sat near him, obviously I didn’t believe him at first.

“We got off the flight, still chatting to him and I eventually saw Sancho and made sure we were next to him in the passport control queue.

“I was absolutely starstruck to see him before my very eyes, on his own less than a metre away from me.

“I eventually plucked up the courage to ask Jadon for a photo, he was more than happy to and we got a few snaps before leaving him alone.

“Somehow from my memory, we were the only people on the entire flight to ask him for a photo, despite the plane leaving from Manchester.

“It was good conversation, we spoke a little bit about United’s season, his time at Dortmund as one of my good friends is a Dortmund fan, and about football in general.

“We eventually got through the passport border, grabbing our suitcases not far away from him before he came over and politely said it was nice to meet us and to enjoy our holiday.

“My friend had a better phone than me so I used his to grab the photo so I could get the best quality picture I could, but this wasn’t before I used my phone to grab the first one, which is the one where you can see Eddie.

“The funny part is, Eddie is turned towards our photo, fully in shot and even pulled his mask down to show it was definitely him.

“Overall, that whole hour or so was a memory I’ll remember forever, not only how nice Jadon was and the conversation we had, but to get that photo with Eddie in the background was unbelievable!”

Sancho was controversially dropped from Manchester United’s matchday squad amid their 3-1 loss to Arsenal last weekend.

Red Devils manager Erik Ten Hag then explained to press his reasoning for Sancho’s lack of involvement, saying: “Jadon, on his performance in training, was not selected.

“You have to reach a level at Manchester United every day and we can make choices in the front line. So, for this game he was not selected.”

The attacker then tweeted his side of the story posting: “”Please don’t believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that is completely untrue.

“I have conducted myself in training very well this week. I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won’t go into.

“I have been a scapegoat for a long time which isn’t fair! All I want to do is play football with a smile on my face and contribute to my team.

“I respect all decisions that are made by the coaching staff, I play with fantastic players… I will continue to fight for this badge no matter what!”

The England international has been capped 23 times but didn’t make the cut for Gareth Southgate’s squad in their upcoming fixtures against Ukraine and Scotland.

A PREGNANT woman claims that she was thrown off her flight alongside her husband, their disabled child and the rest of the passengers after a “grumpy” air hostess accused her of being abusive.

Siobhan Foster had been ready to jet off to Ibiza from Belfast, Ireland last month alongside family to attend her brother’s wedding when she says she was singled out by an air hostess.

The mum from Newtownabbey, Belfast claims she had asked a stewardess if there were any more overhead lockers which prompted a curt reply of “clearly not” from the staff member.

Despite her pleas being shot down by the hostess, Siobhan says she was quickly accused of being abusive to staff, resulting in her and her family being asked to disembark from the plane.

Shocking footage shows a large number of disgruntled passengers collecting luggage and bags as they appear to be leaving the plane.

A member of the wedding party who is filming can be heard saying to the staff: “Everybody’s seen it. The whole plane.”

The pilot can be seen standing in the doorway as someone repeats: “Walk off.”

She replies: “We’re willing to walk off with yous [sic]. The whole plane is, because of that one person.”

Siobhan, who is holding her one-year-old daughter Florence, walks to the exit as the camerawoman says: “Hey Florence. Getting threw [sic] off the plane today, are we?

“Because of somebody thinking they’re better than everyone else? Yeah. Because of this one person.”

The air hostess in question can be seen turning her face away from the camera as she repeats “Bye, bye” in an effort to seemingly shush the family.

The woman filming then pans the camera to show the plane void of passenger as she warns: “This is going all over the internet, all over. Believe you, me.”

After disembarking, the camerawoman can be seen comforting Siobhan who is in tears, reassuring her: “Bs. Don’t be crying, come on. As everyone else said on the plane, it’s nothing to do with you.

“Don’t be crying. Easy f***ing jet.”

Further footage shows the slew of passengers waiting in the airport as they await the next flight to Ibiza.

Siobhan later explained that the passengers – many of whom were part of her brother’s wedding party – were asked to leave the plane alongside her after chanting to instead evacuate the stewardess.

Siobhan claims that the traumatised family were escorted off by airport police, with approximately 180 passengers left in the lurch for several hours at Belfast International Airport.

She then went on to allege that as a result of the ongoing issues, staff had worked over the legal number of hours and passengers to Ibiza would therefore have to wait overnight to board a flight the next morning.

The family claim that they managed to find another flight which would get them to the wedding on time ,but had to fork out an eye-watering £1,500 – including a bus to Dublin Airport where they caught the new flight.

Siobhan took to social media to share the shocking footage last month alongside full context, writing: “I will never fly with easyJet again I understand why people call them sleezy jet.

“We were flying to Ibiza for my brother’s wedding, me, my husband and Florence got on the plane and we were at the first seats as we paid for extra leg room as I’m seven months pregnant.

“This particular flight attendant had such a grumpy look on her face. James sat down with Florence and I asked her was there any more space in the overhead lockers, her reply was a sharp ‘ Clearly Not’.

“So, I asked could you help me find somewhere, her reply was ‘You’ll need to find somewhere yourself’ even though there literally was nowhere.

“So, I said ‘Can you please help me I’m heavily pregnant and my husband has our daughter’. Her response was ‘You’re being abusive and its not my job to help you’.

“Then another air hostess – an older lady – approached me to say ‘Look this isn’t our job to help’ so I said any other airline I’ve flown with have been more than helpful with me as I’m pregnant etc.

“So of course, then she said I was abusive. Writing this I understand it would make you think well was I being abusive, but I honestly wasn’t and the whole plane can vouch for me.

“I found somewhere for the bag, put it up myself, sat down and the next minute two of the crew came over saying I was being aggressive – bearing in mind I’m heavily pregnant, I’m not going to stand and be aggressive.

“I decided to ignore her and she started raising her voice saying ‘Look at me!’. First of all, I’m not a child to be spoken to like that, and I was ignoring her as I was so upset at the way I was being treated.

“Then her and another approached us to say we were being thrown off the plane – we asked why as we literally hadn’t done anything, once again she said we we’re being aggressive.

“My brother and mum spoke to her asking exactly why we were being put off and again they couldn’t answer the question as they were in the wrong.

An airport police car.

“After roughly one hour the whole plane was asked to get off, every passenger on there was chanting to get this air hostess off who in fact said she was the manager.

“Everyone went back inside and three police cars arrived, it was like something I’ve never experienced before.

“We all went down the stairs to find roughly eight police officers and two people from Swissport who said we are not getting back on the plane – this was easyJet’s decision, not the police.

“So that whole day we were in Belfast Airport from 1pm to 9pm with our child – my legs were so swollen and sore with being on them all this time, I was crying uncontrollably.

“I’m so traumatised to the point I don’t know how I’ll ever fly again.

“Every person on that plane is putting complaints in – some actually stood up on the plane to say to the pilot it was that air hostess who was being aggressive towards me, not me at all.

“So, I have a full plane of witnesses who are willing to tell how unfairly we were treated.

“A lot of the passengers have videos to prove this and took pictures of this particular air hostess to have proof of her disgusting behaviour.”

The post received over 780 likes, and hundreds of comments from users left disgusted by Siobhan’s alleged treatment.

Carol Kidd wrote: “Absolutely disgusting. No one deserves to be treated like this. Siobhan, take it further as that was uncalled for.”

Naomi Morrison said: “What the actual f**k did I just read? Oh my God, I’m stunned. Babe are you okay? How awful at any time but heavily pregnant with wee Florence too…she needs sacked.

“They acted disgracefully.”

Leanne Finlay commented: “What the f**k. My blood’s boiling for you. This is absolutely disgusting actually, I couldn’t believe [it] reading that. Shame on them.”

Debbie Oo added: “This is an absolute disgrace love, and you should most definitely take this further.

“No human should have been treated the way you [have] been treated. Disgraceful especially from such a large European airline company, clearly no customer service skills needed for this airline.”

A spokesperson for easyJet today said: “We can confirm that flight EZY3003 from Belfast to Ibiza on 19 August was attended by police before departure due to a group of passengers behaving disruptively at check in and then onboard.

“EasyJet’s cabin crew and ground agents are trained to assess and evaluate all situations and to act quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers is not compromised at any time.

“Whilst such incidents are rare we take them very seriously and do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour towards our crew or other passengers.

“The safety and wellbeing of our passengers, crew and ground agents is always easyJet’s priority.”

A HOLIDAY-MAKER has been left fuming after arriving at her five-star hotel to allegedly find her room infested with bugs, and dead rats lying outside the restaurant.

Suzanne Walder booked a stay at Riu Touareg hotel in Boa Vista, Cape Verde last month with a group of pals for a friend’s 50th birthday.

The 58-year-old booked the all-inclusive, week-long, £15,000 stay through travel company TUI, who had promised a resort leaving you “wanting for nothing“.

However, Suzanne, from Ashford, Kent, quickly saw their dream trip turn into a holiday from hell as she claims they arrived at a “filthy” hotel ridden with vermin and pests, and falling apart at the seams.

Suzanne claims that when she and her pals first arrived at their rooms, they noticed bugs in the bedsheets and soft furnishings, as well as falling from the vent in the bathroom.

She also alleges that the all-inclusive meals that they were promised were the exact same every night -consisting of microwaved burgers, sandwiches and a fruit bowl.

The holiday-making Brit claims she also spotted two dead rats outside of the main restaurant, and that the swimming pool was so dirty that people’s legs weren’t visible when taking a dip.

Complaining to the hotel, Suzanne says that her group was offered complimentary champagne, but three of their party ended up suffering from diarrhoea the following day.

Images allegedly snapped at the hotel by Suzanne show unsanitary conditions throughout the premises, with dead rats lying next to walls, stains on their bedding and mould on the curtains.

Chipped pool tiles and cloudy swimming water is also visible, as well as countless rat droppings littered around the resort.

Sharing the images alongside a post to Facebook yesterday Suzanne wrote: “A party of 10 adults arrived at Rui Touareg five-star platinum hotel booked with TUI.

“We arrived on 18 August for a seven-night 50th belated birthday and a relaxing holiday (well how wrong were we) we were all put into block nine in the hotel which we found out had an infestation of bugs.

“We had to put towels down [on] both sides of the door to stop the bugs coming into the room, bugs in the clothes, in the bed, and falling from the vent in the bathroom.

“After two days of complaining to the TUI rep we were all moved to block three, a bit better but a strong smell of stagnant water.

“[In] The main dinner hall, the food is the same every day every night, what doesn’t get eaten is warmed up again for the evening, disgusting.

“The floors are so greasy you’re slipping everywhere. I saw one of the cooks try to pick a hair from the tray with her gloves on.

“She couldn’t pick it out so she tipped the cooked food on top of it. [There were] stained tablecloths and chipped cutlery.

“[In the] Open-front restaurant the birds have a feast at breakfast and lunch-time, sitting on the large lanterns, waiting to fly down onto the pastries.

“The snacks in the evening were leftover cooked burgers, sandwiches and fruit in a bowl. If you wanted a burger, you put it in the microwave to reheat. Disgusting.

“The main swimming pool is absolutely disgraceful – filthy, broken tiles in and around the pool. You cannot even see people’s feet standing in the water, that’s how dirty the water is .

“I don’t know how anybody gets into pool; the water is filthy. Drink cups all around the edge of the pool with lemons floating in the water from people’s drinks, the pool needs to be shut down.

“The entertainment is very, very poor, finished at 10:30 every night.

“Drinks – lemonade, Coke, flat cocktails, premade in a slush puppy machine. And if you’re going to drink water drink it from the bottles, not from the jugs of water they give you at lunchtime as it tastes awful .

“There were cats everywhere and now we know why, we saw two dead rats and saw a cat catch a mouse outside the main restaurant.

“We could not get booked in any of the pre-booked restaurants as fully booked.

“After having two meetings with the managers, regarding the rooms, the pool, the restaurants, and the rats, one of the managers managed to get us booked into the Asian restaurant with a free bottle of champagne – the next day, three people from our party had sickness and diarrhoea.

“Out of our seven days of what we thought was going to be relaxing and celebrating a belated 50th birthday, we spent hours every morning with the TUI rep trying to get updates sorting rooms out.

“After speaking to Scott, he offered us a holiday voucher per couple which we all excepted.

“We came home on 25 August and none of us have received our voucher yet but it does say on the confirmation which he sent us it could take up to 28 days so we are keeping our fingers crossed.

“We paid a hell of a lot of money for a holiday we didn’t get.

“Please, if you’re thinking about booking this hotel and you’re expecting a five-star platinum hotel you’re not going to get it.”

The post has since received over 100 likes and more than 150 comments from users left disgusted by Suzanne’s claims.

Jean Hall Hampton wrote: “Disgusting, it’s put me off booking it.”

Gemma Lund replied: “I went here beginning of June and found the same with the resort, was my first time to Cape Verde and trying a five-star hotel, no way should this be advertised as a five-star hotel.

“The food is disgusting and half cooked as well as repetitive. From the moment I stepped off the plane, I couldn’t wait to get back on it.

“The rooms are terrible, parents letting their kids run all over the place and staff not saying anything about it, to parents or family members.

“This experience has now put me off trying anymore so called five-star hotels and returning to Cape Verde ever again.”

Robin Dixon added: “Would want a full refund discussing.”

Lesley Barker commented: “That’s a disgrace. Public health should close this place down and shame on TUI for putting you at risk.

“Time TUI were called out on TV for their ever-increasing shabby treatment of customers.”

Speaking today Suzanne said: “I booked this holiday for ten of us for my sister in law’s 50th birthday and obviously feel awful but the reviews don’t reflect the reality of this hotel.

“I go away a lot with TUI and other holiday companies and we do as a group, we have never complained and we totally get that five-star varies around the world.

“But this hotel is one of TUI’s biggest and should have been one of the best and as a big company a five-star rating should be a standard service across all their hotels.

“It was dirty, bug-ridden and dangerous and we have all suffered bad stomachs since staying here. The staff were great and beaches were amazing but that was the only part that we liked.

“They [initially] offered us a sand dune ride, a meal then £450 per couple. Then, when we went into a meeting due to being ignored, we were offered £1,000 a couple but we never received anything.

“The holiday was £2,800 a couple so not even half was offered. Plus, airport parking and hotel stay the night before was so expensive, so the holiday was £15,000 for the ten of us.”

“It is definitely the worst place I have stayed.

“I have done cheaper holidays over the years and lower star holidays but as we as a group have got older, we tend to book nicer holidays and this was definitely soul-destroying.”

Suzanne continued: “I arrange most holidays and felt awful that my sister in law’s birthday holiday was a disaster.

“We didn’t feel it was a relaxing break at all, we spent an hour most mornings with the rep who probably wanted to hide from us, but we weren’t the only people complaining.

“We didn’t realise the medical facilities were so bad on the island either and, as I had a bad accident a couple of years ago, with how slippery the floors were there – especially when it rained – I was worried all the time about falling again.

“I class myself as someone who is pretty fit but after smashing my hip and leg and having a new hip, I am very wary.

“We have only decided to follow this up to try and stop others experiencing this as families with children should not be using these pools and having to waste time and a lot of money on what’s meant to be a five-star dream holiday.”

TUI has been contacted for comment.

A SCOT was left amazed after his flight home featured a surprise passenger in the form of a live falcon.

Ryan from Ayr, South Ayrshire couldn’t believe his eyes as he snapped a photo of the bird, which appeared to be accompanied by its handler.

Ryan Capperauld was on a connecting flight from Abu Dhabi to Doha on his way back home to Scotland yesterday when he spotted the unusual flyer.

With the falcon blinkered and seemingly calm despite being in an airborne plane, journalist Ryan called the moment something that he “doubts he’ll see again”.

A falcon spotted travelling via plane from Abu Dhabi to Doha.

An image shows the falcon sitting in a seat towards the front of the business class section of the plane, seemingly amongst other passengers, whilst perched on the gloved arm of its handler.

Tethered by a short rope, the white-and-brown falcon and its handler seem to be enjoying the row of seats to themselves.

The falcon appears unflustered as it sports a leather hood – often used in falconry to prevent the bird becoming stressed in situations that may frighten it – over its head.

Ryan shared the image to social media yesterday with the caption: “Flying back home and went business between Abu Dhabi and Doha and there was an actual live falcon on my flight.

“Something I doubt I’ll see again!”

The post has since received dozens of likes and comments from users who were left bewildered by the bird’s cameo appearance.

One user wrote: “I loved that about flying back and forth in India, you were never quite sure what you were going to see next! Happy travels.”

Another simply said: “Wow.”

A third however, commented: “Cruelty.”

Another asked “Is it wearing a hat?” to which Ryan explained: “Blinkers mate, in case it goes mental I think.”

This prompted a reply from the user who joked: “Makes sense, I don’t think you would want it kicking off mid-flight.”

Falcons are an important cultural symbol of the United Arab Emirates thanks to their skill and unique personalities.

The bird of prey played a vital role in nomadic Arab life by hunting other birds like bustards and curlews as well as other animals for food.

Whilst this particular bird appears to have opted for a cruise in a plane, falcons in flight are very fast, with the peregrine falcon in particular recording diving speeds of over 200mph.

AN ICE hockey star has shared he and his wife’s experience of their first day in Scotland after making the switch from Norway to Dundee.

Kevin Carr has made the move from Norwegian side Sparta Sarpsborg to Dundee Stars, arriving in the Scots city alongside wife Lo last week.

The 33-year-old has country-hopped across several teams including Nottingham Panthers, Utah Grizzlies in the USA and Medvescak Zagreb in Croatia.

Now he and wife Lo have shared a clip of their first time in the City of Discovery as they touched down in Scotland.

The clip begins with Lo opening the blinds in their new apartment amid the sunrise as on-screen text reads: “Day in my life, living in Dundee, Scotland.”

Lo voices over: “Hi. We’re the Carrs and this is our first full day living in Dundee, Scotland.”

Kevin can be seen cooking breakfast as Lo says: “We had a very simple morning. Jet lag is still very much a problem. Kev made breakfast. He makes about 99% of our meals.

“His dad’s a chef, so he’s learned from the very best. There’s really no point in me trying to cook.”

The clip then shows the Caird Hall and Desperate Dan’s statue as Lo says: “We walked into the city centre just to try to get a lay of the land, a little bit.

“I think I read something about the statues/sculptures but I can’t exactly remember what they were for.”

The camera then pans to Slessor Gardens as Kevin can be seen walking to get a first glimpse of the Tay Bridge.

Lo admits: “So funny but it takes a few weeks to remember what way to look when crossing the street, so we appreciate the little reminder.

The video then cuts to shots of the V&A Museum and the Discovery Ship.

Lo says: “We walked down to the water and saw the V&A Museum, saw the Discovery Ship and then we just walked by the train station – just to see where it was at.”

The clip cuts to the entrance to the train station before panning to a phone shop in the Overgate shopping centre, where the pair acquired SIM cards.

The camera also shows an empty American Candy shop which Lo claims she will do a separate video on in the future.

The video then shows the cobbled Exchange Street as Lo adds: “We had lunch at the Flame Tree. I keep seeing this coronation chicken. I haven’t tried it yet but I need to.”

The pair can be seen enjoying cups of tomato soup, as Kevin tucks into the tasty meal, before walking past a nearby cheesemonger.

Lo says: “I’ll definitely go back for cheese when we have wine night with the girls.”

The video then shows the Tickety Boos pub – a well-established boozer known for playing host to scores of sports fans before the pair end their day out in the city with a trip to Marks and Spencer.

Lo says: “We found the M&S and we did a little shopping there. In Nottingham, we went to M&S almost every day, so it’s very familiar for us and then we headed home for the night.”

They took to social media to share the footage yesterday, writing: “Our first day living in Dundee, Scotland.”

The video received over 14,700 likes and more than 400 comments from Scots who were quick to welcome the pair to the country.

One person wrote: “Best of luck in your new adventure.”

Another joked: “You’ve somehow managed to make Dundee look quite nice in this video.”

A third commented: “Dundee is going to be a shock to the system.”

A fourth said: “Welcome to Scotland, guys. You’re going to love our beautiful, wee country. Hope you guys settle and enjoy life here.”

A fifth wrote: “People will make jokes about Dundee but it’s honestly got so much cooler in the last few years and will be such an adventure – enjoy!”

A final commenter added: “I’m a [Dundee] Stars fan. Hope he has a great season.”

A COUPLE on the hunt for a 99 ice cream selling for 99p have been left stunned by the prices they are being quotes – with some allegedly costing up to a fiver.

The 99 – a soft-serve vanilla ice cream with a Cadbury’s Flake in it – has become a staple of British summers, despite the origins of its name becoming somewhat of a mystery.

With some claiming that the name originates from a group of Italian ice cream makers in dedication to their king, others argue that the name comes from the price that the ice cream cost at one point.

Now, travel bloggers and married couple Ryan and Jade Dash have made it their mission to find a 99 ice cream for just 99p somewhere in the UK.

In a recent video, the duo, both 31, paid a visit to the Lake District, Cumbria, where Ryan, standing in front of Lake Windermere with an ice cream, announces: “Can you get a Mr Whippy 99 for 99p?”

Ryan then approaches their first ice cream van target, where he asks the proprietor: “Would I be able to get a Mr Whippy 99?”

After purchasing the cone, Ryan asks “When was the last time you sold one for 99p?” which prompts an angry response from the man inside the van, who snaps: “They were never 99p.”

A shut-down Ryan walks away from the van and towards the camera as he reveals the price, saying: “£3.50. I didn’t expect anything less from the Lake District.”

The video then shows Jade approaching another ice cream seller, this time in a shack, as she asks: “Hiya, could I get a 99 please? Do you sell a lot of these every day?”

Although interrupted by a bee dive-bombing her ice cream, Jade reveals: “Expensive. £3.30, that is expensive, delicious though.”

Ryan then tries again, this time at a shop as he leaves with the ice cream, revealing a slightly cheaper option this time: “This one was £2.80, we’re heading in the right direction but it’s still not 99p.”

The couple then alternate again with Jade asking at another small kiosk: “Can I get a Mr Whippy please?”

The video then shows Jade showcasing her ice cream, this time with a chocolate topping instead of vanilla.

She says: “I’ve never seen one like this before, this cost £3.50, coated in chocolate, it tastes like a choc ice.”

Finally, the video cuts back to Ryan in front of Lake Windermere as he says: “The hunt for a 99 continues, where next?”

The duo shared the clip to social media with the caption: “Do 99p ice creams still exist? Where to find a 99p ice cream in the Lake District.”

The video has since received over 280,000 likes and more than 1,600 comments from users invested in the pair’s hunt.

One user wrote: “You won’t find anything for 99p in the Lake District, especially Bowness.”

Another commented: “Don’t even live in the UK and I’m invested.”

A third joked: “I heard they sell second hand 99s in CeX.”

Another added: “I said no thanks to our local ice cream van when they said £3.50 for a 99.”

A number of users also claimed that the ice creams were available in their areas for 99p, including the likes of Blackpool, Warrington, Portobello and Cardiff Bay.

Speaking today the couple said: “The hunt for a 99p 99 started because we both love ice cream.

“Especially Mr Whippy – you can’t beat it in the summer, it’s a classic British summer staple and it holds a lot of nostalgia too.

“We started our search around one year ago for fun – because we noticed the price seemed to be getting higher with some costing close to £5!

“We’ve been all over the country visiting ice cream vans and shops hunting for one – from Manchester to London to Blackpool to Leeds but we haven’t had any luck so far. We’re hoping to visit Brighton next.

“The closest we’ve come to finding one was £1.50 in Manchester and that included the Flake.

“We are going to keep searching until we find one for 99p. So if you spot one then let us know.”

A FESTIVAL-GOER was left stunned after running into Scots superstar Calvin Harris on the way back from Creamfields – in a service station bakery.

Livvy Elder was returning home to Consett, County Durham from Creamfields North festival on Monday with boyfriend Jake Foster and pal Ben Lloyd.

The 19-year-old and her friends decided to stop off at the Wetherby services on the A1 on their journey back to grab a coffee at bakery chain Pret a Manger.

However, the trio couldn’t believe their eyes when on their way in, they bumped into world-renowned DJ and chart-topper Harris.

The 39-year-old had been headlining the festival alongside Annie Mac and Becky Hill, and had seemingly had the same idea as Livvy, stopping off for a coffee amid his busy schedule.

The image shows Ben and Jake, both 19, standing on either side of the DJ with Jake clad in an AC Milan football shirt, whilst Livvy sports a Newcastle United top on the other side of her partner.

Harris from Dumfries, Dumfries and Galloway, is wearing a flannel shirt with his arm round Ben as he smiles, holding a pret a manger cup.

Livvy shared the photo to social media on Tuesday with the caption: “Casually bumping into our Calvin at the services at Wetherby today on our way home, what a legend.”

The post has since received over 9,600 likes and hundreds of comments from users left wowed by Livvy’s chance encounter.

Sarah Cove wrote: “F**k my life, the amount of time I spend in those services and nothing.”

Halley Claire commented: “Hope you sang ‘I feel so close to you right now’ I know I would’ve.”

Jack Merrin joked: “Thought he’d be a Leeds Skelton Lake kind of guy?”

Emma Louise Fryer added: “Aww he looks friendly and happy to see you.”

Liam Grant replied: “This is decent, what a nice guy.”

Speaking today Livvy said: “We had stopped on our way up home to Newcastle from Creamfields and my boyfriend Jake had said whilst he was coming out of the toilet, he’d noticed someone in a red flannel shirt who resembled Calvin Harris.

“Me and my friend Ben laughed and said there was no way he’d be in Wetherby services.

“We were laughing away and ended up sitting down outside of Pret cafe expecting to be proven right that it wasn’t him.

“When other people started to talk and chatter away, we noticed that it actually was him and that the biggest DJ in the world was actually a metre away.

“What made it even crazier was that it was two days after seeing him live in person at Creamfields playing an amazing set.

“My friend was the one to ask him for a photo and told him we were sorry for disturbing him for a photo, but he was the kindest man, so humble, said it was no problem at all.

“His girlfriend was lovely also, she even said I looked so cosy as I was totally wiped out from the festival and was in my pyjamas and Newcastle football shirt for the drive home.

“I was absolutely mortified to meet the biggest DJ in the world looking like that!

“It totally topped off our weekend and was a moment we will never forget.”

BRITS have been left baffled after an angry American tourist launched a bizarre rant about the way that Europeans describe where they are from.

The TikToker – known as Naz – had been solo travelling through Edinburgh last week when she approached two Canadians to take her photograph.

However, when the New York native asked where the women were from, they simply said Toronto, as opposed to their country.

This prompted a rant from Naz, who described how she was fed up with Europeans referring to their home country instead of their hometown when introducing themselves.

Vido shows Naz walking along Lothian Road in the Scottish capital while a hubbub of locals can be heard in the background.

Naz begins by saying: “So, I’m in Scotland right now and I just asked these two really nice girls if they could take a picture of me because I’m travelling by myself.”

The clip then cuts to 15 photos of Naz posing on Victoria Street.

The video then cuts back to Naz who continues: “They took some really nice pictures of me but then when I asked them where they’re from, they said, ‘Oh, we’re from Toronto.’”

She pretends to look shocked as she sarcastically says: “Yeah, they said the name of a major city instead of saying they’re from Canada.”

She ups the ante as she jests: “And you know what? I didn’t have a panic attack over it. I didn’t throw a temper tantrum over it. I didn’t freak out that they didn’t say the name of their country over it.”

Naz continues her rant as she says: “Because I’m a normal human being. One who knows where Toronto is and also because I don’t try to find faults in every single thing that anyone tries to do.”

She then leans into the camera as she directs a shot at an entire continent, saying: “Um, at Europeans. You guys should try that sometime.”

Naz.
Many Brits and Europeans were left baffled by the rant. Credit to @nazaroundtheworld from TikTok.

Naz took to social media last week to share the bold video, writing: “Asked someone where they were from and they said the name of their [major and universally-known city] instead of the name of their massive country.

“How will I ever survive? A European might have passed away if this happened to them (or found a way to make a TikTok somehow blaming Americans for it again).”

The video received over 6,760 likes and hundreds of comments as Brits and Europeans alike were left baffled by the rant.

One person wrote: “I’m so confused what this means.”

Another said: “How obnoxious do you have to be to go to another country and complain about their norms? Polite/normal people conform?”

A third commented: “Do you think Europeans are all the same? Half the folk in Scotland can’t even agree if it’s the budgie or cat that’s deid.”

Another added: “Well, yeah, because – as you said – it’s a major and universally-known city. If I said my city, you’d not know where it is.”

A fifth wrote: “Challenge: [Americans] going to a foreign country without insulting the populous. Difficulty: impossible.”

A final commenter said: “Nah, it’s annoying when you ask an American where they are from and they’re like ‘west Seventh Street Avenue’. Like, bruh, what?”

Naz also added in the comments: “What is telling me you’re from one of the largest land masses on Earth supposed to tell me? I like that they were specific.”

A LEVEL-HEADED pilot has shared his tips for flight fears – amid a plane filled with screaming passengers and enduring shocking turbulence.

Jimmy Nicholson was flying from Barcelona to Menorca on his four week-long honeymoon with wife Holly on Sunday when their flight experienced a bout of “horrible” turbulence.

The 33-year-old has been a pilot for ten years however, and whilst Holly, 29, and fellow passengers were left petrified, he delivered his own thoughts and techniques on how to ease flying anxieties.

The video begins with an on-screen caption that reads: “Horrible turbulence. Pilot sitting at the back of a plane.”

The video shows the plane rocking from side-to-side with the sound of passengers screaming in fear as it made its way across the Spanish airspace.

The camera then flips around to Jimmy from Sydney, Australia, who says: “Some of the worst turbulence that I’ve ever felt, so it’s a short flight, it’s not comfortable.”

The on-screen text then reads: “What do you do? 1. Remind yourself – it’s completely normal. The plane isn’t going to fall out of the sky.”

The camera then pans to his new wife, who is attempting to compose herself as she reaches for the sick bag.

The on-screen text then reads: “2. Water bottle trick: the water isn’t moving much is it?”

Jimmy holds a bottle of Buxton water upside down to demonstrate that the water is only moving slightly despite the heavy feeling of turbulence.

Jimmy then reaches up towards the aircon panel and the on-screen text reads “3. Fresh air, look outside the window (we didn’t have one).”

Unfortunately, as the pair were sat at the very rear of the plane there was no window to demonstrate the final piece of advice as the camera pans to Holly gripping Jimmy’s hand for dear life.

Jimmy then continues saying: “So, we are at the back of the plane, so it’s worse here, it’s not comfortable, it’s probably some of the worst I’ve been in.”

The camera turns to Holly sarcastically saying: “Some? Some of the worst?”

He goes on to explain: “It could be widespread storms, so they just have to pick their path of least resistance and go through it, also nothing to worry about planes are built to withstand way worse.

“Not fun, evidently but completely fine. Some of the worst turbulence I’ve ever felt.

“This is one that deserves a clap.”

The camera then shows the rest of the plane loudly applauding and whooping as the plane successfully lands with the on-screen text reading: “Pilots earned their money today.”

Jimmy uploaded the video to TikTok on Monday with the caption: “Horrible turbulence on our flight today. I’m a pilot and actually fly this aircraft type (airbus).

“Here’s why you have nothing to worry about.”

The clip has since received over 600,000 likes and more than 3,400 comments from users quick to chip in with their thoughts.

One user joked: “Why did I think the pilot of THAT plane was sitting in the back just accepting his fate.”

Another commented: “Love how people automatically blame turbulence on airline – ‘It’s a cheap airline so no wonder’, it’s so hilarious to me.”

A third wrote: “I need an emotional support pilot next to me when I fly.”

Another replied: “I’m not scared of the turbulence I’m scared of the people around me vomiting.”

A fifth user said: “It’s not turbulence that scares me, it’s pilot error, or some kind of severe mechanical failure.”

Jimmy Nicholson and wife Holly Kingston. Credits: Instagram.

Speaking today Jimmy said: “I do videos on TikTok and Instagram from time-to-time to help people in dealing with their fear of flying which seems to be a pretty common thing.

“We departed from Barcelona to Mallorca, it’s a 55-minute flight and we hit some pretty bad turbulence, it was pretty rough for the whole way so the seatbelt signs stayed on for the whole time.

“Obviously, I wasn’t up the front so I couldn’t see what was going on with the radar and everything but I had a look at the weather on the ground afterwards and it looked like there were some squall lines coming through.

“These are areas of widespread thunderstorm activity and my guess is that the pilot picked their way through the path of least resistance but we still got knocked around a fair bit.

“It certainly wasn’t all that fun but I just thought that I’d show the video to show people that there is nothing to worry about.

“I included a couple of tricks that I use, like putting a water bottle in front of you on the tray table and seeing how little the water is actually moving because your eyes and your ears can play tricks on you.

“Another is to look for a visual reference outside – we didn’t have a window next to us so it was a little bit difficult – and also to turn the air gaspers on to get some fresh air.”
